The Associated Archives at St. Mary’s Seminary & University opened in the spring of 2002. Located on the campus of the nation’s first Roman Catholic seminary, this program brings together the archives of the Archdiocese of Baltimore (est. 1789), St. Mary's Seminary & University (est. 1791), and the Associated Sulpicians of the United States (U.S. Province est. 1903), making it one of the most significant repositories for records relating to the early history of the Catholic Church in the United States.

A state-of the-art-facility was built to house the three archives. We offer researchers a spacious reading room in a climate-controlled (i.e., cool) environment that has a reference library and a digital microfilm reader/printer. Researchers are able to access the collections through the existing card catalog system and typed finding aids. Click here to read a description of our open collections.

If you are interested in learning more about the reference and genealogical services we provide, please click on the Genealogy and/or Reference & Research links where you will find electronic versions of our policies and request forms. Please note that we do not take requests over the phone. We require that all requests be submitted in writing by using one of our forms, by letter, or by e-mail.

We are open to researchers by appointment only Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., except for the holidays observed by St. Mary's and scheduled closings.

Call us at (410) 864-4074 or e-mail us at archives@stmarys.edu to schedule a visit.

Please note that while we try to meet the special needs of researchers, we do not allow infants, toddlers, or small children to be brought into the archives. Students under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
