St. Mary's Seminary & University Receives Gift of Raymond E. Brown Chair ...
At the luncheon on Alumni Day this year, Fr. Thomas Ulshafer, Acting Provincial of the U.S. Province of the Society of St. Sulpice, announced the gift of a Chair in honor of Fr. Raymond E. Brown, S.S., noted Biblical scholar and former faculty member at St. Mary's Seminary & University.

In his remarks thanking Fr. Ulshafer and the Provincial Council, Fr. Thomas Hurst, S.S., President Rector of St. Mary's, noted that the scholars appointed to the new Chair will continue the legacy of one of the most esteemed Biblical scholars of the twentieth century.
...and presents two distinguished alumni professors with Olier Medal.
Also at the luncheon, Fr. John Kselman, S.S. and Fr. Michael Barré, S.S., both former students of Fr. Brown, were presented with the Olier Distinguished Alumnus Medal, named after the founder of the Society of Saint Sulpice. In his presentation describing their significant contributions to Biblical scholarship, Fr. Hurst also added that they "are deeply immersed in God's Word and convey its meaning to us with wisdom and with power."

The luncheon followed the annual Alumni Day Mass at which Fr. Hurst delivered the homily. Most Rev. David E. Foley, D.D. (SCC '50 and SMS '56) was the principal celebrant.
