Master of Arts in Church Ministries
Pastoral Care Track
Goals
- To become familiar with theological, psychological, spiritual, and sociological perspectives on pastoral care as a ministry of the church
- To gain basic skills in pastoral and spiritual care, including leadership skills in integrating pastoral and spiritual dimensions of care in various ministry contexts
- To acquire theological perspectives on, and basic skills in, ministry with two significant populations in the church's ministry: families, and the infirm and dying
Ministries
This degree track may prepare students for (or enrich students in) paid or unpaid vocations such as Director of Pastoral/Congregational Care, Minister of Visitation, Director of Spiritual Life/Growth/Formation, Deacon, or Pastoral/Parish Associate within a church, parish, or denominational body; or as Chaplain within a nursing home or retirement/assisted-living complex.

- PT/SP602 Pastoral and Spiritual Care
One of the following two courses:
- PT622 Introduction to Pastoral Counseling
- PT720 Introduction to Spiritual Direction
One of the following two courses:
- PT705 Grief Counseling
- PT742 Ministry to the Ill and Dying
One elective in practical theology (PT), spirituality (SP), or religious education (RE)
