Due to the novel corona virus pandemic [Covid 19], the Reading Room has been closed. The Archives will observe the policy adopted by the Seminary in response to the pandemic. Please check back to learn when the Reading Room will re-open.
We are open to qualified researchers by appointment only. Summer hours (May 14, 2021 – August 6, 2021) are Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to noon, except for the holidays observed by St. Mary’s Seminary & University and scheduled closings. Family historians may schedule either a morning or an afternoon appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call (410-864-4074) or e-mail to schedule a visit.
Individuals who contact us in advance about their research interests have the most successful visits. Archival research can be complex, so the more prepared we are for your visit, the better we can help you find what you need. Archivists can help you prepare for your visit, provide guidance on how to conduct archival research, recommend primary and secondary sources relevant to your topic, and help identify collections and materials of interest.
Please note that while we try to meet the special needs of researchers, we do not allow infants, toddlers, or small children to be brought into the archives. Students under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
In the case of inclement weather, please either call 410-864-4074 or check the web page for the Seminary to learn if the institution has been closed or will have a delayed opening.
