About the Archives

Beginning May 17, 2021, the Archives will be offering limited onsite services. Patrons will be required to observe the following Covid-19 safety procedures:

  • Patrons must be fully vaccinated.
  • Patrons will be required to wear a facemask.
  • Patrons will be restricted to the Archives during their visit.

Appointments for genealogy research will not be accepted at this time. See our “Genealogy” page to learn how to access our sacramental records remotely.

We are open to qualified researchers by appointment only.  Hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., except for the holidays observed by St. Mary’s Seminary & University and scheduled closings. Call (410-864-4074) or e-mail to schedule a visit.

Individuals who contact us in advance about their research interests have the most successful visits. Archival research can be complex, so the more prepared we are for your visit, the better we can help you find what you need. Archivists can help you prepare for your visit, provide guidance on how to conduct archival research, recommend primary and secondary sources relevant to your topic, and help identify collections and materials of interest.

Please note that while we try to meet the special needs of researchers, we do not allow infants, toddlers, or small children to be brought into the archives. Students under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.

In the case of inclement weather, please either call 410-864-4074 or check the web page for the Seminary to learn if the institution has been closed or will have a delayed opening.
